Ex Music Teacher Faces Child Pornography Charges

A former music teacher at Eastwood High School in El Paso has been sentenced to 15 years in prison on child pornography charges.  Investigators say they found more than 400 pictures and 13 videos of child pornography on 44-year-old Albert Hibbert's home computer during a search earlier this year.  Records show Hibbert worked for the El Paso Independent School District from 1995 until 2007, and also taught music at Eastwood High School for one year after that.  He's also been ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and to register as a sex offender.

Lawmakers Move To Tighten Abortion Laws

Lawmakers in Austin are considering two more bills designed to cut down on the number of abortions in Texas.  One bill would allow doctors and counselors to face criminal prosecution for pressuring women to get abortions.  The bill's sponsor is a Republican who says she was pressured to have an abortion as a teenager.  Another bill up for consideration would make it more difficult for girls under the age of 18 to get court approval for abortions without parental consent.

Health Insurance Premiums May Rise For Dona Ana County Employees

Officials are considering plans that could raise health insurance premiums for Dona Ana County employees by as much as 19-percent.  If approved, the new higher premiums would cost a typical county employee about 55-dollars a month, or 650-dollars a year. County commissioners are expected to vote on the proposed increase in about two weeks.

Paramedics Rush To Six Car Crash On I-10

Several people have been injured in a chain-reaction accident in east El Paso Last night.  According to unconfirmed reports, at least six vehicles were involved in the crash on eastbound I-10 at Hawkins.  The Highway Patrol and paramedics responded to the scene shortly after ten o'clock.  There's no word yet on what might have cause the pile-up or how serious the injuries might be.

Superintendent Juan Cabrera with the El Paso Independent School District of El Paso has been name this year's Latino Superintendent of the Year in Texas.  Cabrera is also one of four finalists for the National Latino Superintendent of the Year which will be handed out next week in Washington, D.C.  He's been leading the school district in El Paso since September of 2013.
