Don’t panic if you see a snaggle-toothed, bug-eyed critter staring at you from a stranger’s tote bag- that’s just Labubu, and yes, Texas is officially obsessed. These oddball dolls have gone from underground art toys to must-have collectibles faster than you can say “limited edition,” and now they’re invading shelves, social feeds, and shopping carts across the Lone Star State.

What Are Labubu Dolls?

So what exactly is a Labubu? Imagine if a gremlin, a goblin, and something from a Tim Burton fever dream had a baby- and then made it kind of cute. Created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, Labubu is a mischievous little creature with big ears, jagged teeth, and an expression that says, “I bite… but playfully.”

Originally part of an art toy series called The Monsters, Labubu gained a cult following thanks to limited-edition drops, blind box packaging, and collaborations with the mega-popular collectible brand Pop Mart. Toss in a dash of TikTok hype, and you’ve got a toy that’s weird, rare, and totally irresistible to collectors.

And now, Texas has officially caught Labubu fever! This past Saturday, Pop Mart- Hong Kong’s designer toy powerhouse- opened its newest store at Baybrook Mall in Friendswood, drawing hundreds of eager fans. Despite warnings not to line up before 8 a.m., enthusiasts arrived well before dawn, with viral social media clips showing fans sprinting to secure spots. The line stretched around the mall, with many collectors showcasing Labubu-adorned accessories.

And just how much are people paying for this doll? If you can get your hands on one, you'll be paying up to $170. If that's a little out of your price range, the keychains are only $47!

From pop-up shops to long lines, Labubu dolls are creating buzz across Texas. Here's why everyone wants one.

Who knows how these dolls got so popular, and how long they'll stay at the top of the frenzy, but it's clear that for now, they're not going anywhere!
