To start off, there is one minor spoiler for The Last Jedi in this article, so if you wish to remain spoiler free, exit now!

Now that I've given you a chance to exit, if you're still reading that means you've either already seen The Last Jedi or you don't care about spoilers. Moving on, in The Last Jedi we find out that Rey and Kylo Ren are connected telepathically. For what reason, we don't know yet. It happens suddenly and it allows the two to communicate as if they were in the same room. In one of these telepathic connections, Rey is shocked at the sight of shirtless Kylo Ren. Well, not only was Rey shocked but it left me a little speechless, well not entirely speechless I did let out a "Wooo!" in the theater. Here's a little sneak peek:

I mean, beefcake right? Anyway, in an interview with HuffPost, according to the co-sound supervisors Matthew Wood and Ren Klyce there was a reason why Kylo Ren was shirtless:

“The way in which [director Rian Johnson] decided to create the Force connection by just simply doing vertical cuts without using any CG ... it’s pure simplicity in terms of film making with visual cuts. We cut to her side; we cut to Kylo Ren; we cut to her; and back and forth. That was important to establish what she was actually seeing. Was she hearing his voice or seeing his face or just his eyes? And so that [shirtless scene] is to inform the audience, ‘Oh, she can see his body.’'

The Force works in mysterious ways but establishing that Rey could see ALL of Kylo Ren was so that we could see what she sees. And all I have to say to that is: "THANK YOU!"
