Downtown El Paso will soon be showing a little more "Texas Pride".

Local artist Jesus “Cimi” Alvarado will soon be painting a huge mural on the side of a parking garage downtown. The mural will look as though a gigantic Texas flag has been hung over the side of the garage at 420 Texas Street. (See an artists rendering of it here.)

This is part of a Downton Management District program that awards money to encourage folks to "brighten up" Downtown. According to the DMD website:

The Downtown Mural Grant Program provides funding to existing business and/or property owners to establish or restore murals within the DMD boundaries. All proposed mural projects will be reviewed by a panel of local art professionals to determine the quality, suitability, and appropriateness of the proposed mural, and make a recommendation to the Grant Review Committee.

If you would like to be considered for this project, which is actually 1 of 4 "beautification" projects, call 915-400-2294. You can also apply here.
