How Motley Crue and Def Leppard Decided Whose Name Would Go First on Airplane
The big Def Leppard/Motley Crue/Alice Cooper went off without a hitch (other than a few lengthy beer lines) and everyone’s basking in the afterglow of a wonderful night of rock at the Sun Bowl.
Here’s an interesting post-concert factoid: Motley Crue and Def Leppard SHARED an airplane for this current tour.
You travel in style when you’re in a world-famous band selling out stadiums. It kind of makes up for the years of traveling/living in a van when you were first starting out.
These guys have EARNED that luxury.
So, when two legendary bands like this are sharing a plane SOMEBODY’S name has to come first on the side of the plane. How do you settle something like “Who gets top billing on our luxury tour jet”?
Here’s how Crue and Def Lep hashed it out.
Yup, a simple coin toss. Of course, it was a specially designed coin with both the Crue AND Leppard logos on it.
Talk about a tour souvenir!
One other observation about that coin toss video up there: is 65-year-old Phil Collen YOKED or what?? I don’t mean “for an older guy”. His torso looks like it was sculpted out of marble! His abs are BEYOND a “six-pack”. They’re what Rick and Morty delicately referred to as “***-gutters”.
It turns out Phil has been living a VERY healthy lifestyle for the last 35 years. In 1988, he quit drinking (which had become a problem) AND he became a vegetarian and later, a vegan.
Also, he’s CLEARLY working out, probably every day and he’s been training in martial arts for over two decades.
