Before you head to the beach for your 4th of July vacation, make sure the beach you are at is safe to swim in.

Health officials in 5 states have issued advisories for certain beaches, right before the 4th of July holiday weekend.

In Texas alone, there are 15 beaches with either high or medium levels of bacteria. Luisiana has 12 beaches under advisory, and Mississippi and Alabama both have one.

Over half the Texas beaches with advisories are centered around Galveston. The Galveston Health District has assured residents and visitors that the advisories aren't for the Vibrio bacteria aka "flesh-eating bacteria."

Beaches under advisory in Galveston aren't closed, but the the advisory is to inform the public of the higher than normal bacteria levels. People can then decide if they are willing to still swim in the water.
