This Immersive Art Exhibit Can Be Found in New Mexico and Texas
After waiting a long time, Texas fans of Meow Wolf are able to witness the weird & wild for themselves. All you need to do is take a quick trip to Grapevine, Texas is all you need to do to experience it for yourself. The OG Meow Wolf of course is in Santa Fe, New Mexico & our very own Joanna Barba went to check it out for herself. However I decided that, hey if I’m gonna visit Dallas, why not make a trip to see Meow Wolf? So I did & I'll attempt to describe it the best I can.
What’s inside the Texas Meow Wolf?
Located right next to the Grapevine Mills, shopping mall, the address for this Meow Wolf is 3000 Grapevine Mills Pkwy Suite 253, Grapevine, TX 76051. After your brief introduction from the tour guide telling you to “let your mind explore”, you enter through a yard in the nighttime outside an old looking house.
The story behind this place is someone opened up a portal inside the Grapevine Mills mall; the house was a portal between alternate realities.
There’s no path telling you which way to go first, so it’s completely up to you on where you wanna enter first. We decided to go through the shed first. Already you’re greeted with these colorful & wild displays of mushroom spores, these otherworldly creatures mixed with the real world.
Once you’re INSIDE the house, you’ll see that it’s actually a normal looking house that looks like one from the 70s. The living room, bedrooms, kitchen… yeah it’s really nailed the 70s aesthetic. There are many passageways between the real world and the portal world and I do mean… MANY. You will probably have to do a little backtracking if you want to experience every single doorway inside.
If there’s one thing, I would highly suggest it’s this: before your journey, you’re given 3-D glasses so you can see all the unique designs the way they want you to see them. After walking for about 20 to 30 minutes, I actually started feeling very dizzy and I had to regularly takeoff the glasses so it wouldn’t mess with my vision. There were also some sections that contain strobing lights (thankfully, there are signs warning you before you enter the rooms).
Basically my heads up is: if you don’t like 3-D or you have motion sickness, I wouldn’t suggest you go through it because you might get disoriented from everything inside. Those feelings aside, I’m glad I got to experience Meow Wolf at least once. However, I might just have to check out the other ones too to see how different they are. (Maybe Joanna can do it too so we can compare our experiences).
So far, this is the only meow wolf in the state of Texas; there will be one opening up in Houston sometime later in 2024. Until that opens, Texas fans just need to take a short trip to the Dallas area if you want to go there and see the weird wonders you’ll find the Unreal…become Real. Just make sure you didn’t eat before hand in case you get motion sickness…
