Imagine you're driving down a road in the Texas Hill Country when you glance out the window and spot a giraffe.

Not a billboard. Not a statue. An actual giraffe!

It sounds like the setup to a joke, but for nearly two weeks, people in Texas have been keeping an eye out for Gracie, a nearly 4-year-old giraffe who wandered away from a ranch near Leakey. And while authorities are using helicopters, drones and game cameras to find her, the internet appears to have assigned Gracie a much more fun itinerary.

Gracie the Giraffe Has Become Texas' Latest Folk Hero

According to reports, Gracie wandered away from Cedar Hollow Ranch near Leakey and has been spotted on game cameras, but no one has been able to bring her home just yet.

A $5,000 reward has even been offered for information leading to her safe return.

Meanwhile, social media users have apparently decided that Gracie isn't missing at all. She's simply off on an adventure.

AI-generated images have shown Gracie having a pretty incredible summer, seemingly making her way across the Lone Star State. Somewhere along the way, she stopped being a missing giraffe and became Texas' newest folk hero.

Texans Immediately Turned This Into a Statewide Side Quest

As it turns out, everyone in Texas seems to know exactly where Gracie is.

The Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department jokingly announced that Gracie is now their newest probationary firefighter.

A soap shop in Taylor shared a photo suggesting Gracie had stopped by for a visit. An electric and plumbing company posted that she was "just hanging out" with them.

And perhaps most importantly for us here in the Borderland, one San Elizario resident decided Gracie had skipped the Hill Country altogether and headed west to visit the San Elizario Historic District.

At this point, finding Gracie almost feels like Texas' favorite summer side quest. Everyone wants to participate, everyone has a theory and everyone apparently has a photo of where she ended up next.

Wherever Gracie Is, Texans Are Rooting for Her

Underneath all the jokes and AI images, people genuinely want Gracie to make it home safely.

Until then, Texans will probably keep doing what they've been doing for the past two weeks: giving Gracie an increasingly packed travel itinerary.
