As we near the inauguration, the Department of Defense and FBI have vetted every National Guardsmen that has been deployed to help with security for the event. According to The Guardian, because of the vetting process, one dozen members of the National Guard have already been removed from their duties. The vetting process included screening potential ties to rightwing extremism and other violent groups.

Authorities revealed that they are doing extra vetting out of concern that an attack at the inauguration may come within ranks of the guard. While many may see the screening process as another great security measure taken to ensure that the inauguration goes smoothly and safely, many are not happy with the extra vetting. One of those, is Texas Governor Abbott- who says he is "offended" with the questioning and calls it disrespectful to the Texas National Guard.

Chief of the National Guard Bureau, Gen Daniel Hokanson, told reporters that the vetting process went beyond just looking at extremist/violent groups:

"One guard member was removed from duty after troubling text messages and another had been reported to a tip line".

The extra security results directly from the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol by Trump supporters. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell directly blamed Trump for that mob attack and said:

"The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the President and other powerful people."

McConnell then went on to vow to have a "safe and successful inauguration."

The inaguration of President Elect Biden will begin at noon. Meanwhile, just outside the city at Joint Base Andrews, Trump will hold a farewell ceremony that begins at 8 A.M. whichever you will be watching, it is assured that security will be tight.
