Cocktail Fire Disaster at Texas Bar Sparks Lawsuit
A Dallas, Texas couple are suing a bar after they received first, second, and third degree burns all thanks to a flaming cocktail.
We've all been to a bar where the bartender does a fancy trick involving shots and a flame, right? We all know it is potentially dangerous, you're mixing alcohol with fire, but it's all in good fun, at least that's what this Texas couple thought.
According to the lawsuit, on Aug. 26, Abbi Hance-Briscoe and Dustin 'Dutty' Johnson decided to swing into the Twisted Trick for a drink- when they ordered a flaming pineapple. However, what was supposed to be a happy reunion dinner for the couple turned tragic when, according to the lawsuit, the "bartender added more Everclear to the drink" which was garnished with a lime on fire.
While Hance-Briscoe was able to capture a photo of the cocktail before the flaming drink caught fire, shattering the glass and spreading the fire onto Hance-Briscoe and Johnson.
The couple both ended up with severe burns; Johnson's face was parially saved because of his bear, but Hance-Briscoe had the worst burns and was in the ICU for a week, remained hospitalized for six more, and has had three skin grafts.
She also has reconstructive surgery planned for next February.
As for the Twisted Drink, according to WFAA, the venue has since closed down. Attorneys representing the bar's owner deny the allegations in the lawsuit.
The couple are on a long road to recovery, you can help the couple with their impending medical bills by visiting their GoFundMe.
