Of the historic artists & concerts Texas has seen over the years, perhaps one of the biggest ones has to be Elvis Presley. The King of Rock & Roll has performed in Texas literally over a 100 times. It turns out, the very first time an Elvis performance was RECORDED just may have been in the Lone Star State.

Elvis' first filmed performance in Texas was shot in 1955

On an Instagram post from the page historyphotographed, they uploaded footage taken from Elvis' August 7, 1955 performance in Magnolia, Texas. The actual location was Houston, Texas; however it was at the Magnolia Gardens (so close enough!). This was by no means Elvis' first Texas performance, but this might just be the first time he was ever FILMED during a performance in his career.

How many times has Elvis performed in Texas?

In total Elvis had performance in Texas a whopping 138 times; his biggest one being at the Houston Astrodome in 1970. 36,299 people showed up to watch the King perform.

The final times Elvis would perform in Texas would be at the Taylor County Coliseum in Abilene & at Austin's Municipal Auditorium on March 27 & 28, 1977 respectively. In fact the final time Elvis played in Texas was during the Austin City Limits

We'll never know just how many more times Elvis would've played in Texas, as he would die less than 4 months later after his Austin City Limits performances. But we can at least be thankful that he gave Texas plenty of amazing shows.

I know El Paso's seen Elvis too; in fact he even recorded a live album here way back in 1976, which you can read all about HERE.
