El Paso Waterparks Hosting the First Ever Polar Plunge
El Paso may not have polar bears, but for one day, you could swim like one!
The City of El Paso Water Parks is inviting the community to the first ever polar plunge!
2023 Polar Plunge
Taking place on Saturday, February 4 at 10 AM at Camp Cohen Water Park at 9700 Gateway North in Northeast El Paso (formerly Cohen Stadium).
As per their post:
Take on this fun & chilling challenge while supporting your local community. We encourage participants to challenge family, friends, and/or coworkers. Form a team and show your support together!
And the great part is that this is all to benefit the Special Olympics!
The Special Olympics is a great organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. All money raised from the Polar Plunge will go towards the Special Olympics Texas.
If you've never heard of a "polar plunge" it's a fun event for those wiling to brave the cold. Basically a polar plunge is an event held during the winter where participants enter a body of water; in El Paso's case, it will be a pool at Camp Cohen Water Park. It may not be the Arctic but I know for sure the water at the El Paso Water Parks can definitely get super chilly!
It's quite popular and even some celebrities get in on the action like the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth.
You can find out for yourself just how cold the water can get in the Sun City when you register for the 2023 Polar Plunge here.
