There are several wineries near El Paso and throughout the Borderland which enables an almost endless string of wine festivals and tastings.

Those tasty wines, our beautiful weather and awesome drives, (like Highway 28 for example), can make for a fun afternoon. Just take it easy on the grape juice and/or have a designated driver to keep the afternoon a fun one for all.

If you find yourself at one ... trying to impress bae, friends talked you into it, lost a bet, whatever ... but hate wine, don't worry. You can still have fun.

Here are a few things you can do to try and make the afternoon at least somewhat entertaining.

If you're not a "winer", try your best to choose the winery. Some of them also offer beer or liquor so you'll have non - wine options. Same goes for food. If it's a wine fest though, like the one I just suffered through at the New Mexico state fairgrounds, there won't be any beer options and the food is stupid expensive. You'll have to be creative.

Don't Get A Designated Driver, Be One

That way, when it's over and your friends are all wine smashed, you'll be the clear headed one. When you see their buzz has reached its peak, convince them they promised you a really nice gift or dinner at your favorite, (uber expensive), restaurant for driving.

Make Time For A Time Out

Most fests allow you to go in and out to put away your purchases, grab your shades, put away your shades, whatever. Load up a cooler and chill in the car for a while when you can and enjoy a quiet moment with a cold one.

Don't Go

Say you have to work, don't feel well, got family in town, whatever - Just skip it. That's not always easy though, especially if you're always dragging your wife to motorcycle runs. That's pretty much why I go to so many ...
