SXSW is one of, if not THE BIGGEST, music festivals in the US. Every year in Austin, people from all over the WORLD come to SXSW. The festival may have ended, but I think this is a good time to highlight the people from El Paso who were featured at this years SXSW festival.

We'll start with the performers; this year there were 2 DJs: Salem Ofax & DJ Zetroc & 3 artists who were from El Paso.

Lilia is Lilith: The reggaeton artist/producer from Juarez & El Paso who now lives in Austin, & 1/2 of the duet Perreo Club, performed back on the 15th at Cuatro Gato.

Flores: The R&B/Alternative artist Flores was born on the Tigua Indian Reservation in El Paso. Her mother was an activist who led the border movement “Ni Una Mas” (Not One More) on behalf of “La Muertas de Juarez” against the continual violence toward women in Mexico and South America. She also performed on the 15th at Speakeasy.

Lavender Thug: The Hip/Hop artist Lavender lives in Austin but she frequently DJS  in El Paso & New Mexico. Her set was on the 19th at Cheer Up Charlie's Inside.

Musicians weren't they only figures from El Paso who attended SXSW 2022. Other big names included Speaker & Activist Fernanda Ruiz, Filmmaker Iliana Sosa who presented her film What We Leave Behind,

Also there was Texas State Representative Claudia Ordaz Perez, & Former Congressman Beto O'Rourke.

I'm definitely glad we had some artists from El Paso perform at SXSW 2022 but I was a little disappointed there weren't any rock bands or more names there. Hopefully next year we can see a few more names represent ELP in AUS...
