El Paso Temperatures Shatter Records Ahead of Spring
It’s hot outside, and plenty of people are shrugging it off because this is El Paso- the Sun City! We’re a desert city where sunshine is practically guaranteed, but this week feels a little different.
This isn’t just typical Borderland warmth. El Paso has broken multiple heat records, and we’re still nearly three weeks away from the official start of spring. That’s what makes this stand out.
El Paso Weather Feels More Like Mid-April Than Early March
Over the past week, temperatures across the Borderland have climbed well above average, shattering previous daily records and giving early March a serious mid-April vibe.
Mornings still start off cool enough to convince you to grab a sweater. By lunchtime, you’re overheated and wondering why you didn’t trust your instincts!

Some residents are loving the early sunshine, especially with spring break right around the corner. Others are already thinking ahead to summer. When record highs show up before spring officially begins, it’s hard not to wonder what July and August might look like.
But if you’re like me, you’re already worrying about the heat and how you’re going to keep yourself cool. Whatever you might feel about the early heat, I think there’s one thing we can all agree on…
At Least It’s Not Windy
If there’s one thing working in everyone’s favor right now, it’s that the heat hasn’t come with those infamous El Paso winds. Anyone who has lived through a full dust-blown afternoon knows that heat is manageable. Heat combined with 40-plus-mile-per-hour gusts and flying patio furniture is a completely different experience.

So while the early warmth may be surprising, at least we’re not battling sand in our eyes!
Record Heat Is Still Record Heat
It’s easy to say, “It’s El Paso, it’s supposed to be hot,” but breaking temperature records weeks before spring officially begins is still notable.
This stretch of warmth is arriving early, and while it may make for a pleasant spring break preview, it also raises eyebrows about how intense the coming months could be. For now, forecasters say similar conditions are expected to continue. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, plan outdoor activities during cooler morning hours, and prepare for warm afternoons.
