Somethings up at a small, mostly hidden, lake in west El Paso and social media is bubbling over with possible solutions and conspiracy theories. One, (of each), actually makes sense.

Cement Lake is on the west side, between I-10 and the Rio Grande. It's a small, spring fed lake that most people have been driving by for years without even noticing.

It's making its presence known now though as several streets have been closed near it due to fears that the dam that holds it is about to break. (UPDATE: Roads have since been reopened.)

As I write this, the dam at Cement Lake in El Paso, aka the Portland Reservoir ... see a pic here ... looks like it's about to break.

Social Media Gets Involved

As usual, everyone online has either a solution, a conspiracy theory or jokes. Some of them are pretty good and at least one solution I saw posted actually does makes sense.

El Paso Water says, via Facebook, that water levels have already been dropped by a foot and a half and a picture in their post shows a gig pipe with water gushing out of it.

Some comments were funny. In that, "it's funny 'cuz it's true", manner ...

Some were a little more practical including one that suggested El Paso Water plow a clear path from the lake down to the river ... which could REALLLLLY use some water ... and if the dam breaks, it breaks. No biggie.

As far as damage anyway; it would still suck to lose this little gem. Ideally, they'll just fix the dam.

Others got a little conspiracy - ist. Can't say I'm a full on, 100% NON - believer when it comes to these.
