Jury Rules In Wrongful Death Suit

A jury has ruled police officer Angel Garcia and a truck driver are equally responsible for the crash that killed Garcia three years ago.  Garcia was hit and killed on I-10 when he tried to remove a ladder from the highway.  Garcia's parents were asking for 30-million dollars in the wrongful death lawsuit.  But, there's no official word yet on how much money Garcia's family might be awarded.

Lawmakers Support Fracking In Texas

The Texas House of Representative has approved a bill that would ban cities in the Lone Star State from banning "fracking."  However, local environmentalists want the El Paso City Council to take an official stand against fracking, before the bill reaches the state Senate.  Activist Cemeli De Aztlan says El Paso could lose the power to regulate fracking, if the city council doesn't act quickly.

Open Carry Bill Is Close To Becoming Law

The House has given final approval to an open carry bill in Texas.  House Bill 910 would allow gun owners with concealed weapons permits to carry handguns openly.  A similar bill has already been approved in the Senate and Governor Abbott says he plans to sign the legislation into law.  House lawmakers have also defeated an amendment to the bill that would have allowed cities to opt in or out of open carry laws.

Electric Bills Are Going Down

It looks like your electric bill will be going down next month.  A typical customer's monthly bill should be dropping by about 5% or $3.74 after the first of May.  El Paso Electric reports natural gas prices are falling, and the company is required by law to pass those savings on to consumers.

El Paso Boxer Will Fight For World Title

El Paso boxer Jennifer Han has notched another victory with a unanimous, 10-round decision over Fatuma Zarika.  Han now has a career record of 12 wins, three losses and one draw.  If all goes according to plan, she'll fight Helen Joseph of Ghana for the I-B-F Featherweight World Championship in June.  The exact date and location for her upcoming title bout hasn't been finalized yet.
