Trailer Release Puts New Mexico Film Back In The Spotlight
It's been a good week for movie trailers, but especially great for movie trailers that feature New Mexico! The Land of Enchantment made waves earlier this week when it debuted the trailer to Matthew McConaughey's newest thriller that was shot in Ruidoso! Now we're getting a glimpse of a new movie that will transport you back to 2020.
Remember that mysterious film crew spotted around New Mexico last year? Turns out they weren’t just here for the green chile. The trailer for the long-anticipated, pandemic-era Western is finally here- bringing a first look at what those dusty roads, tense standoffs, and familiar landscapes were all about.

If you’ll remember, this is the Ari Aster-directed project we told you about- the one starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler? The film, Eddington, was shot across New Mexico last year and promised a moody, modern Western with more than a few twists.
Now, the wait is over. The first trailer for Eddington just dropped, and it’s every bit as tense, strange, and visually striking as you’d expect from an Ari Aster film. Between the masked standoffs, small-town paranoia, and eerie desert shots, it’s clear this isn’t your average Western.
So what exactly is Eddington about? Set in a fictional New Mexico town during the early days of the pandemic, the film follows an asthmatic sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) as he butts heads with a progressive mayor (Pedro Pascal) over lockdowns, masks, and mounting tensions that push the town—and their sanity—to the brink. Emma Stone plays the sheriff’s emotionally distant wife, while Austin Butler steps in as a manipulative influencer fanning the flames. It’s part Western, part political satire, and part fever dream.
Eddington is the film that sent the stars to Cannes where Emma Stone was nearly attacked by a bee, luckily Pedro Pascal was there to save the day!
With its eerie tone, stacked cast, and New Mexico roots, Eddington is shaping up to be one of the summer’s most talked-about films. Whether you’re in it for the dark laughs, the social commentary, or just to spot a familiar backdrop, the trailer is a must-watch. The film hits theaters July 18.
