Last year, David Lee Roth suggested Van Halen were primed for a return to playing baseball stadiums in the United States and now the frontman has all but nailed the coffin lid on the band, saying "I think Van Halen's finished" in a recent interview.

Getting a straight answer out of Diamond Dave is a near impossibility with his affinity for cryptic, almost coded messages, suggestive truths and sense of humor that sometimes feels like he's the only one in the world who "gets" himself.

"That's been canceled a number of times," Roth told WRIF "Meltdown" of the rumored summer 2019 Van Halen tour. "I think Van Halen's finished and this is the next phase," he continued, turning his attention toward his newly-announced Las Vegas resident set for next year.

Speaking about the current state of the legendary rock group, the singer divulged, "I've inherited the band de facto — whatever that means. I think it means if you inherit it, carry this proudly. Van Halen isn't gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know. And that being said, Eddie's [Van Halen] got his own story to tell. [It's] not mine to tell it."

Roth will be at the House of Blues in Las Vegas in January and March of 2020, performing a career-spanning 26-song set. Head here for more details.

Van Halen last played a show on Oct. 4, 2015, as they closed out their tour with back-to-back performances at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
