I watched the Super Bowl and jotted down a few notes. Here are some that I think people might be interested in hearing.

1. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Hypes and Intros the Teams

I read that not everybody loved The Rock’s introduction of the teams. I thought it was cool. More importantly, it looked like a LOT of the players for both teams thought it was cool. Who knows? Maybe it will become a tradition like Michael Buffer before big prizefights.

2. The Coin Toss

Is there any reason this thing needs to take longer than 20 seconds, tops? It gets longer every year. This year there was a PSA about “girls participation in football” DURING the coin toss.

3. The Most Successful Ad of the Night

That stupid QR code bouncing around the screen. As far as getting viewers to answer a “call to action” (point your phone at the code and check out the website for Coinbase) I can’t think of a more effective ad. Seriously. You might have enjoyed the “Wassup” commercial back in the nineties but you didn’t IMMEDIATELY go to the store to buy Budweiser.  I haven’t seen the numbers yet but this ad got tens of millions of people to go check out a website. That ad, by the way, probably was produced for under a hundred dollars.  While we’re on the topic…

4. Stop Trying to Shame Me into Buying Cryptocurrency

First, it was Matt Damon basically calling you a coward for not investing in Crypto. Last night, it was Larry David trying to make you feel like an imbecile (like him!) if you didn’t buy Doge-Bucks or what-the-hell-ever. I’m not saying Crypto is a bad investment. I’m not saying it’s a good investment. But whenever ANY advertiser spends millions to make you feel like a moron, I get suspicious. That’s all.

5. Halftime Show

I am not, nor have I ever been a big fan of rap. Those who are, however, told me the halftime show was “lit”, “fire AF” and “epic”. I will take their word on it.

6. Lord of the Rings Prequel

Was it just me or did the poor CGI for this series make you think it was an ad for a video game at first??

7. Taking the Bengals Plus the Points

I took the Bengals when the point spread was 3.5. I didn’t realize until THIS MORNING how much that Rams muffed P.A.T. was.  Thank you, thank you, thank you Johnny Hekker! I owe you a beer someday.
