According to Tripadvisor, yep.  Check out what the travel website says are the coolest things to do, for free, in El Paso and around Texas.

Tripadvisor recently ranked the top 10 things to do here both in El Chuco and all over Texas. I agree they're all fun places to visit, and they're all free, but my own list would look a little different.

Here are the ones Tripadvisor chose along with some of my favorite freebies.

First up, the Tripadvisor El Paso top 10:

  1. Scenic Drive Overlook - I'm good with this one; a fun drive and stunning view.
  2. Mission Trail - If you're a history buff, which I am, another winner.
  3. Border Patrol Museum - Cool but it's really more for full on Border Patrol buffs.
  4. El Paso Holocaust Museum - The only bilingual Holocaust museum in the USA.
  5. El Paso Art Museum - For art freaks and casual observers alike.
  6. 1st Armored Division/Fort Bliss Museum - Not sure, I've never been.
  7. Museum Of Archaeology - Ditto
  8. El Paso Municipal Rose Garden - Nope, haven't been here either.
  9. Chamizal National Memorial - Also seems just for history buffs, cool story though.
  10. 1,000 Steps Trail - I don't hike but, if you do, I'm sure you'll love it.

The entire list actually goes beyond 10, listing 28 places to go, gratis.

Dubba G's Favorite Freebies:

My list is different, still free though and ... no surprise here if you know me ... it doesn't require much physical exertion

Scenic Drive - I totally agree and would add Trans Mountain too, especially when you ride across/over them on a motorcycle.

Museums are cool too and they get you out of the summer heat so, I'll go with that. I prefer old west, motorcycle, music and entertainment or "oddity" themed museums though. (Think Ripley's Believe It Or Not.)

Cemeteries are kinda cool to wander around in and there are some super old ones in and around El Chuco. There are also some pretty famous peeps buried in the area like a former "worlds tallest man", John Wesley Hardin and Pat Garret.

You can also wander around downtown and check out all kinds of historic buildings or stand, more or less, where a legendary gunfight once took place. Shopping for weird stuff is free too ... although, whatever you buy won't be.

Trying to spot the Marfa Lights is also free. Just a few things Tripadvisor missed, here are some of the things they named among the "best freebies in Texas".
