When you think of Arizona, acres of lush, green grass don't exactly come to mind. They do a mean golf course there though ...

Arizona is almost all desert, with very little water and practically no rain. Particularly in the Phoenix area where it's not only super dry; they routinely set records for high temps. They sometimes have to close the airport because it gets so damn hot the jets can't fly.

Crazy.

There are all kinds of super snazzy, artsy fartsy golf courses around the country but not everyone can afford to use them and/or join the clubs that own them. I, myself, wouldn't want to.

This is more me ...

Golf is mega popular though so, luckily, there are public courses in just about every city and some rival the fancy, exclusive ones.

Which Arizona Public Golf Course Made The Top 10?

Despite a distinctly unfriendly grass climate, Scottsdale ... a suburb of Phoenix ... is home to one of the highest ranked, public golf courses in the USA.

With 330 days of sunshine, Scottsdale is a dream destination for golfers, especially when courses in other parts of the country are closed due to snow and inclement weather. Vivid red mountains, bright blue ponds, and lush green vegetation make the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale a symphony of dramatic contrast. - USAToday

You could say pretty much the same for the weather in El Paso and we also have public courses available. I don't golf but I got familiar with the game ... familiar enough to know I suck at it ... at what is probably our nicest public course - Painted Dunes.
