Are The Miners Actually Better Now?

Check out my column on the 2013-14 UTEP Miners men's basketball team, a team with every excuse not to be very good. After a lackluster start, Tim Floyd then had to throw his leading scorer and two of his best guards off the team for gambling. The Miners have just nine scholarship athletes and a whole bunch of walk-ons. And yet now they're on a four-game win streak after whipping UTSA, 81-62.

How did that happen?
