AI Is Becoming the New Marriage Counselor in Texas
The world of AI is constantly improving, and as much as I hate to admit it, it's pretty helpful. I needed help restoring some suede boots and boom! It had all the answers for me, because I was clueless. But, while I was using AI to fix my boots, many Texas couples were using it to fix their relationships!
A new report from Marriage.com surveyed 1,000 married Americans and found something surprising, but honestly very on-brand for the times: almost half of married couples say they trust AI for relationship advice more than their own friends and family. And Texans? We’re definitely part of that shift.
Texas Couples Aren’t Above Asking AI Before Asking Each Other
The study found that 64% of married Americans have searched online for help before talking to their partner, and 44% have used an AI tool like ChatGPT specifically for relationship issues.
That number jumps even higher among millennials, which is a huge chunk of Texas marriages today.
Why? Most people said they’re afraid of making things worse, starting a fight, or coming off too emotional. And honestly, that tracks- especially during the holidays, long work weeks, or those “Are we seriously arguing about the thermostat again?” moments.
One-third of respondents even said AI “understands their relationship struggles better than their spouse.” That’s not necessarily a dig- it’s more about people wanting a neutral place to think before they talk.
The AI Marriage Counselor Trend Hits Home in Texas
Texas wasn’t called out individually in the state-by-state Google Trends analysis, but Southern states as a whole topped the list for emotional marriage-related search activity, and Texas fits right into that pattern.

Texans are famously independent, private, and solution-oriented. We’ll try to fix something ourselves before asking anyone else, and this study suggests that extends to relationships, too. Instead of calling their sister, their best friend, or their therapist, couples are asking about help with money issues and arguments.
It’s not that couples don’t want to talk, we just like to walk into a conversation with a plan.
Nearly Half Trust AI Over Loved Ones- And Twice as Much as a Therapist
Here’s where things get spicy, the report suggest that digital sources are now the most trusted place for relationship advice. People trust AI and search engines:
- more than friends
- more than family
- and almost twice as much as a professional therapist
That doesn’t mean people are ditching counseling- but AI is becoming a starting point. A warm-up round. A place to say the things they’re scared to say out loud.
And it seems to help: 44% said they felt calmer after talking through an issue with AI, and 38% said they felt more confident about what to do next. Only 5% walked away feeling worse.
What This Means for Texas Marriages
This study doesn’t suggest couples are replacing each other with robots. What it does show is that Texas couples are looking for:
- A private space to vent
- A way to organize their thoughts
- A neutral “practice round” before real conversations
- A little emotional buffer
Marriage is tough, no matter where you live. But Texans are stepping into a new era where digital tools don’t replace communication, they actually help start it. Check out more here.
