The One Russian Drink I Cannot Stop Drinking
As I mentioned in my previous post, I went to Juarez for the first time in two years!
It was nice to be able to cross over and enjoy the usual treats I've always loved. All the street food was great- as usual. I was able to get some elote, a fruit cup and some tacos al vapor.
Because I had some time to kill, we headed to the famous Mercado. I love it there, you can find anything and everything you need in one market! While there, we were cooling off and I ordered one of my favorite drinks: an agua Rusa!
An Agua Rusa, or a Russian Water, is a refreshing Mexican fruit soda, is kind of like an agua fresca, except this one does contain soda to give you that zest and bubbles. I'm not entirely sure why it's called "agua Rusa", and ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, I've felt a bit weird ordering it!
An agua Rusa contains some citrusy fruits and juices like oranges, grapefruit and pineapple. You also get some chamoy and Tajin in the mix and it's a delicious party in a cup. You can add alcohol to it- preferably tequila- but if you're just in need of something refreshing, it can go without alcohol and it's just as delicious!
I've never attempted at making it myself, but I can say that the Fox Plaza swap meet has some great vendors who can make it, and now I know that the Mercado also offers a delicious agua Rusa! However, if you're up for trying it yourself, check out this recipe!
