A Look at the 78 Million Dollar Improvements to Bel Air High

Bel Air High school has had many students walk the halls initially built in the 1950s.

Fast forward to February 2021, as the groundbreaking ceremony begins construction of a new academic wing, which was approved as part of a $425 million dollar bond approved by Ysleta ISD voters.

Now in 2022, we see what $78 million was used for as students and staff celebrate the new academic wing. This fancy building was highlighted recently by Ysleta ISD with a Facebook video.

The video shares some of the layouts of the new building and how difficult the transition was for both students and staff once construction was complete.

Bel Air student Kate Padilla shares a student's perspective on just how important this investment is during the video. Showcasing how a simple change, even the size of the table can really affect how a student feels prepared to learn.

What is Next?

This video showcases only the first part of construction being completed. More projects await the Bel Air staff but will hopefully be completed by May, according to CBS4Local.com.

According to the bond plan posted to YISD.net the next project will be a new controlled entry at the main entrance of the campus, followed by new multi-purpose turf for both the baseball and softball fields.

El Paso area schools could all use some improvements in some type of way, but it is nice to see one high school finally make renovations to evolve with future students.

While Alumni of Bel Air High School might feel a little sad about their old school being demolished, the memories will always be with you, just like that terrible high school nickname people still probably call you at parties.
