UPDATE: Closure Of I-10 Freeway This Sunday In West EP Revised
UPDATE: TXDOT sent out an update this afternoon stating that this closure has been moved. It will now take place from Saturday, July 11th at 9 p.m. till Sunday, July 12th at 8 a.m.
TXDOT is reminding us all that the I-10 freeway will be closed starting this Sunday for 26 hours in both directions. Expect plenty of traffic and congestion on the westside of El Paso this Sunday. TXDOT has announced they will be closing I-10 in both directions this Sunday, July 12th starting at 4 a.m. The closure will be in both directions from Schuster to Sunland Park. TXDOT hopes to reopen the freeway by Monday, July 13th at 6 a.m.
Construction workers will be placing a bridge deck over Mesa Park. Commuters are being asked to take the Border West Expressway or go around the area and travel through the Anthony Gap or Transmountain, although be aware there is construction going on on Transmountain as well. If you are planning on taking Mesa Street, please be aware that there is ongoing road construction happening from Baltimore Avenue/Glory Road to Brentwood Avenue. Northbound traffic on North Mesa is reduced to one lane and will cause heavy congestion in the area. Construction crews will begin working on Mesa Street again overnight so both the freeway and North Mesa Street will be difficult to travel on so try to use different routes.
Another thing to mention, after the lanes reopen and the deck is still curing, crews will be continuously spraying the area down so it won't dry too fast. If the deck dries too fast, it could affect the strength and integrity of the area. Motorists are being advised that water from the spray will run off and wet the cars on the freeway below. If you don't want to worry about ruining your freshly washed car, TXDOT recommends taking an alternative route, like the Borderwest Expressway or North Mesa.
