17-Year-Old Pilot in Albuquerque Flies into the Record Books

Gabriel Carothers, a 17-year-old student from Albuquerque, New Mexico, has achieved the distinction of being the youngest pilot in the state by successfully completing his private pilot check ride.

An article by BlackEnterprise.com proved that for this New Mexico teen, getting a pilot's license was just like getting a driver's license.

The second his birthday landed, he soared to the nearest DMV.

His love for the big metal bird began when he was very young, and his father, a retired U.S. Air Force pilot, became a pivotal source of motivation and support.

At the age of 8, Carothers was able to take control of an aircraft in flight for the first time, and by the age of 14, he had already constructed his very own solo flight simulator.

When I was 14, I was playing a computer Roller Coaster simulator... called Roller Coaster Tycoon.

FIRST IN HIS FIELD

Carothers' accomplishment of becoming the youngest pilot in New Mexico was achieved last August, just 10 days after he turned 17.

Currently, Carothers is a member of the General Lloyd "Fig" Newton local chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, where he teaches the essentials of flight to little kids and big adults during STEM events.

FURTHER FLIGHTS

In the future, he aims to fly vintage aircraft, participating in airshows, and follow in his father's footsteps by enlisting in the Air Force.

While Carothers acknowledges the historical significance of his achievement, his primary focus remains on the joy of flying, and he aspires to inspire other youngsters to follow their passions.

So, the next time you're flying commercial, and your pilot's voice sounds a little higher pitched than usual on the intercom, you now know why.
