Well, as most of you are aware, Mike Portnoy quit the band he helped found 25 years ago, Dream Theater. He wanted to have the band go on "hiatus" for an indeterminate length of time and then have a "reunion" after the long break.

The rest of the band wasn't down with that, for some reason.

Their thinking was, "why should we stop playing together when we're (almost) all having a great time doing it, and our momentum is better than ever?" So they discussed not doing that, until Mike said, "Screw you guys, I'm going home!" (I'm sure in his best Cartman voice.)

So Mike quit his band and went on tour with Avenged Sevenfold for the second half of 2010 before he was dismissed. They were going to play with other people, and weren't too enthusiastic about the public war of words between Mike and the rest of Dream Theater about the split.

AAAANNNNYWAY...flash forward a few months, when the info came out that Dream Theater had auditioned 7 drummers for the job over 3 days and had selected their new drummer. But they weren't telling anyone who it is.

Now, they are about ready to break the silence and clear up any rumors (Mike Mangini) about who their new drummer will be (whom they've already been writing a new album with).

But they're doing it in a 3 part documentary, which looks really well done. Part 2 just came out, and part 3 should be out on Friday!
