Michael Davis, bassist for the politically charged punk-rock pioneers MC5, passed away at the age of 68 on Friday as the result of liver failure. MC5′s influence in the hard-rock world stretches from their contemporaries the Stooges to future acts like Rage Against the Machine.

Drummer Tonmi Lillman, known as ‘Otus’ in the Finnish heavy metal group Lordi, passed away yesterday (Feb. 14) at the age of 38. No cause of death has been revealed as of yet.

As Avenged Sevenfold and music fans worldwide honor the memory of Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan on what would have been his 31st birthday, Jimmy’s mom took some time to check in with a touching letter to fans. Born James Sullivan, ‘The Rev’ died at the age of 28, due to an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

A week ago, we reported that Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante left the band’s tour to be with his terminally ill mother. Today, Benante informed fans that his mother passed away. The stickman wrote a tribute to his mom on his official website and also noted that he would return to Anthrax’s lineup for their New York City show on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Riot guitarist Mark Reale passed away Wednesday (Jan. 25) at the age of 57 after being hospitalized for severe complications from his longtime battle with Crohn’s disease. Reale had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage and was in a coma for the past two weeks.

Singer Nicole Bogner, 27, who fronted the Austrian symphonic metal band Visions of Atlantis from 2000 to 2005 has passed away after a battle with a “severe disease over a long period of time.” She handled vocal duties on the band’s first two albums, ‘Eternal Endless Infinity’ and ‘Cast Away.’

We were too busy gulping egg nog and overpaying for New Year’s Eve dinner to notice this story, but we’re kind of glad we did.

This is truly an amazing story! Ben Breedlove had a heart condition that took his life on Christmas day. Before his death, he recorded  his life experiences (in silence)  and described what heaven looked like standing next to his favorite rapper, Kid Cudi. I hope you can take a life lesson from Ben Breedlove. R.I.P.
