Zoo Improves Security Fence to Save Animals From Human Intruders
Back in May, a local woman went viral worldwide after she was recorded hopping into a spider monkey enclosure at the El Paso Zoo. After hopping the fence, she waded through the moat and sat on a rock, and proceeded to feed Flaming Hot Cheetos to one of the monkeys.
The video was posted online and quickly went viral, ending up on the national news. Afterward, El Paso Zoo Director Joe Montisano came on the Buzz Adams Morning Show to talk about the ripple effect the El Paso enclosure break-in was going to cause around the world. Now, zoos everywhere were forced to look at their spider monkey exhibits and start updating the security fences so what happened in El Paso can't happen anywhere else.
The El Paso Zoo is located at 4001 East Paisano Drive. The El Paso Zoo is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m and Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets range in price from $7.50 to $12 and you can purchase tickets at the zoo.
