You’ll Be Amazed By This Talented New Mexico Skateboarder Heading To The Olympics
The internet loves Mariah Duran, the top-ranked U.S. women’s street skater who hails from the Land of Enchantment.
The Olympic trials are underway for a variety of different sports but we now know which people will be representing the US at this summer's Tokyo Olympics. There are 12 members of the Olympic team and they were presented by USA Skateboarding CEO Josh Friedberg. There will be two events, park and street, with 3 men and 3 women will represent the country in that category, per Forbes.
New Mexico residents are ecstatic to see Mariah Duran qualifying for the team. The 24-year-old female street skater is from Albuquerque and is proof with hard work, people can achieve their dreams.
According to KOAT News, Duran is a back-to-back national champion who used to work part-time at Dion's for six years. Duran started skateboarding with her two brothers and she spent most of her time at local skateparks. When she was announced on the Olympic team, she became emotional when talking about how far she's come:
“It’s been a long journey. To have family by my side is amazing. My brothers are always at my contests.... We always believed in it, we always loved it, it’s amazing to see how far it’s come. We’re going to Tokyo and the Olympics. It’s not just a hobby.”
