WTF Wednesday: Rape Victim Expelled For Filing Rape Charge

Seriously ... She could be .......

A student, Landen Gambill, at the University of North Carolina who accused another student of raping her has herself been charged with "violating the schools honor code" (Honor? Really?) and creating a "hostile enviroment" ... for the rapist.

WTF?!?!

Allegations of Gambills' history of depression and a previous suicide attempt were apparently used by the court to discredit her. According to Gambill, these aspects of her past were brought about due to a long term relationship, marked by instances of sexual and verbal abuse .  Read more.

Granted, staying with someone who hurts you may not be the smartest thing to do.  Charging the victim with making life rough on the attacker however, is absurd.

WTF is wrong with these people?

Landen was notified of the charges via an email which read in part:

You are being charged with the following Honor Code violation(s):

I.C.1.c. - Disruptive or intimidating behavior that willfully abuses, disparages, or otherwise interferes with another (other than on the basis of protected classifications identified and addressed in the University's Policy on Prohibited Harassment and Discrimination) so as to adversely affect their academic pursuits, opportunities for University employment, participation in University-sponsored extracurricular activities, or opportunities to benefit from other aspects of University Life.

The college has issued a relatively meaningless response to this story saying, of course, not much beyond "not our fault.".
