Woman Accused of Taking Manatee for Joy Ride – True Crime Report
A woman in Florida has been arrested after police said she took a manatee for a joy ride.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's office said Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez turned herself in after photos of her riding the manatee were released. Gutierrez admitted to the offense claiming she is new to the area and did not realize it was against the law to touch or harass manatees.
According to Florida state law, “It is unlawful for any person at any time, by any means, or in any manner intentionally or negligently to annoy, molest, harass, or disturb or attempt to molest, harass, or disturb any Manatee."
