Whataburger Wins Best Burger Value in New Study

If you are from Texas, then you already know that anytime someone starts ranking fast food, especially if Whataburger is involved, you know things can get a little heated.

But this time? The results might actually make Texans feel pretty good, with one small exception.

Texas Favorite Whataburger Tops Burger Value Study

A new study from personal finance site NetCredit set out to answer a question we’ve all wondered at some point: which fast food chain actually gives you the best bang for your buck?

To figure it out, researchers ordered burgers from 14 major chains, weighed the patties, and compared the price per ounce of meat. (Which sounds like a very productive lunch!)

And the winner? No surprise here.

Whataburger came out on top, offering the best value at $1.66 per ounce of beef, beating out competitors like McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, and Smashburger.

Even though a Whataburger sandwich might cost a little more upfront- around $5.92- the patties are bigger, which means you’re actually getting more for your money. But the study also found that Whataburger serves some of the largest patties in fast food, so it really balances out the slightly higher menu price.

I guess everything really IS bigger in Texas!

But About Those Fries…

Here’s where things might get a little controversial.

While Whataburger dominated in burger value, it didn’t exactly shine in the fries department. The chain ranked 13th for fries value, with portions coming in at around 3 ounces- significantly smaller compared to places like Five Guys, which topped the list with massive servings.

Even Shake Shack, known for smaller portions, still outperformed Whataburger in value.

Really, the burgers are carrying here.

At the end of the day, this study pretty much confirms what a lot of Texans already believe:

When it comes to burgers, Whataburger is hard to beat. But the fries? That might depend on who you ask!

Either way, if you’ve ever found yourself sitting in that drive-thru line thinking, “Is this worth it?”- this might be your answer, because according to the numbers, it kind of is!
