Leader of Westboro Baptist Church Dead At 84 – UPDATE
Leader of the anti-gay/anti-military church passed away in hospice care.
Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps, Sr., has died. He was 84.
Phelps died at a hospice care center in Topeka shortly after midnight Thursday, daughter Margie Phelps told The Associated Press.
Phelps was born in Meridian, Miss., on Nov. 13, 1929,
He started the Westboro Baptist Church in 1955 and most of the congregation are members of his own extended family.
This so called church did come to El Paso one time to protest at as soldiers funeral and threatened to return many times but didn't have the BALLS to show up again in this border town.
According to their website, it has picketed more than 53,000 events, to include a Foo Fighters concert to funerals for slain U.S. soldiers. Typically, a dozen or so family members -- including small children -- brandish signs that say "God Hates Fags" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers."
