When it comes to steakhouses, El Pasoans have plenty to choose from, including fan favorites like Cattleman's, Great American, and many others, but at Weso Steakhouse, the food, ambiance, hospitality, and location set it apart from the rest.

The name 'Weso,' which is a fun way to spell 'bone' (Hueso) in Spanish, and perhaps a nod to the beautiful WestStar Tower, is a new 'original culinary concept featuring prime bone-in meats' by the fine folks at Corralito's.

The Menu:

Carnivore lovers will enjoy prime cut selections ranging from (10-48 oz) including Bone-In-Filet, New York Strip Kansas Cut, New Zealand Rack Of Lamb, Porterhouse, and Tomahawk Ribeyes.

And while Weso is all about hand-cut steaks, their dinner menu also includes a Taqueria with a choice of Mahi Mahi, Lamb Barbacoa, and Tenderloin with Bone Marrow tacos. Other menu choices include Pork Osso Bucco and a Pistachio Mole that I plan to try on my next visit.

The menu also has a variety of seafood, salads, soups, and vegetarian options, such as Roasted Beet Tacos and a Roasted Cauliflower with a Matcha aioli that was so popular they ran out by the time we ordered.

The swanky new steakhouse features elegant mood lighting, table seating, and half-moon booths with high backs for the ultimate in privacy and comfort. Every table in the main dining area also gives guests a direct view of the kitchen to watch the chef in action.

In the bar area, a prominent 'W' is the centerpiece of the social space that also features an espresso machine, TVs, and plenty of seating for sipping on your favorite cocktail, including an outdoor patio.

My Experience:

Our meal began with fresh, handmade bread served with a side of sweet cream herbed butter. As we nibbled on the savory biscuits, we mulled over what to eat as a main course because everything sounded so good.

I selected the Salmon Filet (cooked to perfection) paired with roasted vegetables, tri-colored quinoa, and hibiscus reduction with a side of the most savory double-baked potato ever.

At the same time, my friend finally settled on The Cowboy 20 oz bone-in ribeye with creamy mashed potatoes.

Our meal culminated with a deconstructed cheesecake with cookie crumbles, Frangelico, roasted coconut flakes, and wild berries that would rival a slice from the Cheesecake Factory on any day.

After devouring every last bit of our dinner, we moved to the bar, where I ordered one of Weso's specialty and refreshing drinks, Jungle Poison, made up of Rum Zacapa23, natural mandarin juice, fresh mint, and dehydrated hibiscus leaves.

Not only was our 3-course meal the highlight of our evening, but the cocktails and company helped elevate our dining experience to another level.

While Weso Steakhouse may not be the first steakhouse in downtown El Paso, it will surely satisfy carnivores across the borderland. Plus, for us night owls, the new restaurant is a welcome addition to the scarce late-night dining scene in downtown El Paso.
