Lonely Island, the Andy Samberg comedy troupe that gifted the world such timeless classics as “Like a Boss” and “D*** in a Box”, wrote and recorded a song for this year’s Academy Award ceremony. The video ended up not being used on the Oscars broadcast because “it was financially and logistically impossible to shoot”. I guess the finished project would have used the actual movie stars instead of impersonators and would have had a little more spit and shine, production-wise. But, if I’m being honest, this rough storyboard version is easily funnier than anything they did during the actual broadcast. I thought Kimmel was a good host, don’t get me wrong. They could’ve run this rough, cheapo version and replaced any of the lack-luster “real” musical performances. This is a comedy classic we almost never got to see.
