The name Texas was based on a Caddo Indian word meaning "friends" but it can mean a lot of other things depending on how it's used.

Thanks to its association with the greatest state in the United States of America, the name Texas is known around the world and is pretty versatile.

For example, it can indicate great size as in "that's as big as Texas" or a large quantity as in "that's a Texas sized serving". In the Netherlands, if you say "that's Texas", it means you're looking at or doing something crazy.

What about certain types of trucks though. Both Chevrolet and Ford make pickup trucks they label as "Texas Edition". Some other manufacturers work "Texas" into their vehicle names too but Ford and Chevy are probably the best known.

Ford rebranded their Texas edition F-150's and F-250's as "King Ranch" models, named after the famous King's Ranch in Texas. Unlike Chevy's, which are only sold in certain states, you'll find King Ranch Fords available all over the USA.

So, what, exactly, does "Texas Edition" mean?

It has to do with what is known as the vehicle "trim" package ... all the little gadgets and creature comfort things that go in the trucks. For Chevy:

... more recent versions have featured everything from chrome wheel packages and Bose audio systems to LED cargo bed lighting and a power lock and release tailgate — not to mention luxurious features like dual-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver seat, and keyless open and start. - slashgear.com

When it comes to the Fords', "trim" extras include:

Among the luxury additions included in the 2024 package, you'll see significant horsepower upgrades, a range of safety features and driver assistance options, as well as a 12-inch touchscreen and infotainment package, among others. - slashgear.com
