Once again the migrant crisis is making headlines in El Paso, Texas. This has been a constant discussion for many years but has really ramped up during the Trump presidency. From wanting to build a wall and keep people in Mexico, many things have happened to prevent the migrant crisis from spilling over the border.

As a city that loves its "sister city" Juarez, Mexico, El Pasoans have mixed feelings about the current migrant situation. No matter the personal opinions of El Pasoans Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has some strong words for drivers on the border, "Watch Out for Pedestrians."

The first glance at this sign can be shocking for some, especially visitors. Our staff likes to drive people from our company, who are visiting El Paso, along Loop 375 to show them how close our city is to the border.

These metal signs and digital signs are new additions to the border cruise and are something to really take seriously. Migrants rush across the border at numerous times of the day. Seriously, I left work at 2 pm and about twenty migrants ran in front of my car when driving home on the border. Luckily, I wasn't distracted and managed to stop safely for them. Which I wish I had taken a photo of, but again, I was being safe since this was at a time over 1,000 migrants had shown up at the doorstep of Downtown El Paso.

Map of Electronic Billboards in Texas

I came across this really cool feature on TXDOT's website. I absolutely love reading TXDOT's electronic billboards for new jokes or to actually know what is going on in the streets of El Paso, so when I stumbled upon this map, I just had to share it in this article. You can go all around Texas to search for specific signs including this "Watch for Unexpected Pedestrians" sign. Friendly reminder, these signs are really fun to see when the holidays come around. Their employees are great at coming up with creative jokes.
