There are a lot of jokes made about drummers. Like, “What do you call a drummer that broke up with his girlfriend? Homeless”. Or, “How do you get a drummer off your porch? Pay him for the pizza”.

Not me, though. I know from experience that you can’t have a good band without a good drummer. The drummer is the foundation that the other instruments and vocals build on. That’s why I would never say something like, “What’s the difference between a drummer and a savings bond? One will eventually mature and earn money”. No, siree, you won’t hear a joke like that from me.

On his YouTube page, Sam Paulicelli, drummer for the death metal band Decrepit Birth, demonstrates how a drummer should knock on doors. While guitarists, bassists and singers have to worry about such trivial things as “notes” or “musicianship” or “standing up” a drummer can concentrate all of his (or her) focus on pounding on things. Sam Paulicelli shows drummers everywhere how to do it with style. In this video, Sam demonstrates how to knock in a dizzying array of styles. From Slayer and Morbid Angel to Queen and Super Mario, Sam Paulicelli shows you how to knock like a pro.

Sam Paulicelli is a percussion GOD! Also, does he kind of look a little bit like Dave Grohl with Weird Al’s hair? Give it a try the next time you’re seeking to gain entrance.

I hope we’ve all gained some extra appreciation for drummers and that none of us will ever tell a stupid joke like, “How do you know when a drummer is at the door? He doesn’t know when to come in!”
