Stay Sober, Stay Safe: Texas Police Boost Patrols for Labor Day Weekend
If you think there's an abundance of cops in Texas already, there will be an increase of cops on the road over the next few days. As Labor Day is approaching, it's a great way to say goodbye to summer (at least until next year). But with the amount of partying that goes on, the Texas Department of Transportation announced there WILL be more police on the road this week.
There will be more cops on the road for Labor Day weekend because of TXDot's Labor Day campaign
The "Drive Sober. No Regrets" campaign was launched with the intended purpose of reducing the number of people driving drunk in Texas &, hopefully, the number of people injured (or killed) from DUI accidents. Between August 16 to September 2, expect to see more police officers throughout the state, especially in the late night hours. This applies to ALL police departments in Texas.
In 2023, there was a total of 334 DUI-related injuries; 14 people were killed & 35 people were injured over the Labor Day weekend ALONE.
Anyone who has been affected by a drunk driving accident knows how horrible that can be; those who DO drive drunk usually get arrested (or worse). So it's not worth it.
So if you're partying on Labor Day, TXDot strongly advises you to get someone else to drive you home if you've partied too much. Don't hurt yourself or anyone trying to drive home.
Of course, we know Texas has a huge problem with drunk driving -- if you're curious about which cities have the WORST problems with drunk driving, you can find out if YOUR city made the top 10 here.
