Labor Day's done, now here comes the full on holiday season. Stock up on your beer, wine and liquor early since Texas liquor laws don't always allow alcohol sales.

After all the Labor Day BBQ's, it's kinda quiet until Halloween. After that, holiday-wise, things happen pretty quick as all the years' big celebrations are right on top of each other.

It's a good idea to get your holiday shopping done as early as possible, especially when it comes to alcohol. You don't want to run out of anything "after hours" and, in Texas, those hours are weird.

There are places in the United States of America where you can find bars and liquor stores open for business 24/7 and/or with all types of alcohol available in one handy spot. Texas is not one of those places ...

When And Where Does Texas Allow Alcohol Sales?

That depends on what type of license a business has.

Full service license holders can only sell their own drinks, nothing can be brought in. Package stores in Texas can sell only beer and wine while liquor stores can sell beer, wine and liquor. Hours of operation differ between these places.

When Are Texas Liquor Stores Closed?

Legally, they can only operate Monday - Saturday from 10am - 9pm. No Sunday sales are allowed.

NOTE: Texas liquor stores are also required to close on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years day ... no matter what day of the week the holiday falls on. Plan ahead.   

Booze Hacks

An establishment in Texas with no liquor license can let customers bring in their favorite alcohol, no matter the type. "Beer and wine only" license holders can allow peeps to bring in liquor but beer and wine has to be purchased on site. Read more here.

New Mexico allows liquor sales on Sunday so it's easy for El Pasoans who drank everything Saturday night to reload on Sunday. They also have slightly longer hours, 10am - midnight, 7 days a week.
