Texas is 5th Least Safe State During COVID-19
This probably doesn't come as a big surprise but Texas isn't exactly one of the safe states when is comes to COVID-19. WalletHub recently put together some numbers from the pandemic to see what states were the safest. Before we get into the criteria, here's the complete list. Oh, and by the way, New Mexico is one of the safest.
- Alaska
- New Mexico
- Hawaii
- Maine
- North Dakota
- Colorado
- Vermont
- Wyoming
- Washington
- Rhode Island
- Wisconsin
- Idaho
- Oregon
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- Connecticut
- Kansas
- South Carolina
- Montana
- South Dakota
- Utah
- Illinois
- New Hampshire
- Iowa
- Arizona
- Virginia
- Mississippi
- Nevada
- Oklahoma
- North Carolina
- Arkansas
- Indiana
- Maryland
- Nebraska
- West Virginia
- Louisiana
- Ohio
- California
- District of Columbia
- Delaware
- Pennsylvania
- Alabama
- Massachusetts
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- Tennessee
- Texas
- New Jersey
- Florida
- New York
- Georgia
So what are the criteria that put Texas this far down the list? You can't say it has to do with us having a Republican governor because New York is below us, and Governor Andrew Cuomo has really hosed up the pandemic response. Let's not forget he was totally doing some crafty things with the COVID-19 numbers.
Of the main criteria used to make this list, Texas doesn't come in the bottom five of any of them, but we're close enough to the bottom that we've at the bottom of the overall list. Here's the critera:
- Vaccination rate
- Positive testing rate
- Hospitalization rate
- Death rate
- Transmission rate
Again, this probably didn't come as much of a surprise. But that doesn't mean we can't turn this thing around at the end. It's almost over. The end is in sight. Just keep safe over Easter weekend.
