I'm not much a beer drinker, but I know that if I do want a good beer, a local brewery is the best place to go; and in Texas, there's no shortage of amazing breweries!

Earlier this month, may of those Texas breweries competed in the 2024 Great American Beer Festival that took place in Denver- and many came back home to the Lone Star state with an award!

The Great American Beer Festival is not just an event to highlight beers from across the country, it’s a judged beer competition, too. This year, there were approximately 92-hundred beers and ciders in the running and 8,836 beers judged. Of those over 8,000 beers, nine Texas beers won for their entries!

There were 102 beer categories, including 170 subcategories, with an average of 85 beers entered in each category. To decide the winners, there were 285 beer experts involved in the multi-step judging process. The top three categories entered were all IPA categories, with lager making up almost every other top-10 category.

Here are the nine Texas-brewed beers that won awards at the Great American Beer Festival for 2024!

I wish there was a category for most creative names because, I have to admit, one of my favorite things about breweries is the unique names that they come up with for their many different beers!

It definitely looks like these breweries take their beers very seriously. If you feel a bit intimidated going into a brewery not knowing the difference between the variety of beer styles such as ales, lagers, stouts and IPAs (India Pale Ales), don't worry, I know from personal experience that many of the brewers are more than happy to give you a lesson and help you find the beer that you like best!
