Texas colleges have some unique traditions that other states perhaps don't understand. A clear example is found at Texas A&M University in College Station; of course you know that as the home of the Texas Aggies.

One of the places closest to the university is known as the Dixie Chicken on 307 University Dr.

Looks like a fairly normal restaurant on the outside right? Well what WE'RE interested is, is not the food inside, it's the alley right NEXT to the Dixie Chicken.

This Texas alley has been full of bottle caps for years. Here's why.

Yup that stuff on the ground is not just dirt, those are bottle caps that have been there for over 50 years. This very interesting tradition was started by the owners of the Dixie Chicken, Don Ganter & Donnie Anz.

Instead of throwing out the bottle caps that wouldn't much if taken to a salvage yard, they had a great idea...why not just toss them in the alley? And they did. Since then, people have continually tossed their bottle caps in the alley in between the Dixie Chicken & The Backyard.

Today Bottle Cap Alley is home to over 1 MILLION bottle caps (much of that was donated back in 2022). According to the traces_of_texas Instagram page, there just might be over 2.5 million bottle caps next to the Dixie Chicken (but who's counting?).

To this day, the alley is almost covered with bottle caps & you could still walk in the alley. It even has its own sign that says "Bottle Cap Alley". Be careful though; this is definitely one spot where you NEED to wear shoes if you decide to walk through.

So if you stop by that area next to Texas A&M and you need to toss your bottle cap, you can always donate it to this unique alley! Just make sure you ask the folks by the Dixie Chicken first...
