First we find out that Texas isn't the most gun friendly state in the union and now they say we'd rather not defend our home with a gun?

I can't find the link to the report I read saying that Texans seem to be less likely to want a gun for home defense ... my computer likes to hide things from me ... but, I swear, I read it somewhere.

I really doubt that Texans are losing their fondness for firearms overall, especially when it comes to personal defense. Handguns are still wayyyy out front when it comes to that but, regarding home defense, there are a few more options ...

As far as home defense goes, in a nutshell, the article I read just showed an upswing in non-lethal protections like alarm systems, window bars, fences, etc. I didn't even get to check the source before the article vanished ... it could have been The Onion.

Either way, it got me thinking about different ways to keep intruders out of your home without having necessarily having to own a pistol or shotgun. Here are a few off the top of my head ...

Ok, ok ... seriously ... home security is no joke.  Guns are no joke either and the decision to own one is a serious one. If you go that route, be sure you know what you're doing.

You need to pick the right weapon, (we're all different in size, shape and ability), you need to know how to use it, (training options in El Paso include Sportsmans Elite, the Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club and El Paso Concealed Carry among others), and you need to be sure it is safely stored when not in use or carry.

There are many things you can do to help keep intruders out of your home without having a pistol, rifle or shotgun handy. The simple fact that you MAY have a gun is something criminals take seriously so, don't advertise it if you don't.
