The holidays have arrived in El Paso, Texas! Winterfest is in full effect, we know who's playing in the Sun Bowl and, probably the most important of it all, it's tamales season in the borderland!

In the weeks leading up to Christmas El Pasoans begin the hunt to find tamales. The good thing is that in El Paso, we don't really have to worry about not finding any; there is an abundance of stores and tamal makers across the borderland that are ready to get you your fix!

But tamales are a very serious business in El Paso. In my house, we don't make tamales until Christmas eve, but my mom does not take the task lightly. I can already feel my hand cramp up at the thought of making tamales! And I know that out there in the borderland, there are many who have already begun their tamal-making journey!

Luckily, my mom had a change of heart and on Christmas eve morning, we gathered again to make tamales for the family.
