Study Finds New Health Benefits Of Heavy Metal Music
If you're feeling, to quote Iron Maiden, "down, depressed and lonely", try listening to some Iron Maiden.
Or Judas Priest, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold .... whatever. A new study says listening to Heavy Metal will help you fight off bad feelings like depression and anger. The study, done by the University of Queensland's School of Psychology, gathered together 39 adults between the ages of 18 and 34 and found that they were more inspired and calmer after listening to Heavy Metal music. Duh ... I could have told them that.
According to the study which was published by Frontiers in Human Neuroscience:
The findings indicate that extreme music did not make angry participants angrier; rather, it appeared to match their physiological arousal and result in an increase in positive emotions. Listening to extreme music may represent a healthy way of processing anger for these listeners.
The bottom line? Our "Metal Health" is just fine.
