Human skulls and other bones were found in a New Mexico home after a very weird hitchhiking incident. Sounds kinda like a Hollywood movie plot, huh?

A resident of Jal, New Mexico offered a neighbor a ride and things got very creepy as the ride turned into what the driver called an "unsettling experience".

The driver isn't identified in the news stories but the passenger was. Cecil Villanueva, made "alarming statements" as he threw stuff, including bones, from his bags out of the car.

That was enough to get the driver to contact the Lea County Sheriff who investigated and made the disturbing discovery in an abandoned home.

When police searched the area where they say Villanueva discarded the bags, they found bone fragments, which a pathologist confirmed came from a human, the sheriff's office said. Police also searched a home where Villanueva had been staying in Jal, where police say they found more bone fragments.

Among them, “evidence of 10-20 human skulls,” the sheriff’s office said. - usatoday

Villanueva is in the Lea County jail on a misdemeanor criminal trespass charge for allegedly "squatting" in the home where the bones were found.

One of the skulls may belong to a missing woman named Angela McManes who was last seen in 2019 in the area where Villanueva was staying. That may not be the case though as investigators also said the skulls may have been bought online.

Anyone with any info is asked to contact the Lea County Sheriff’s Office, (575-396-3611) or Lea County Crimestoppers. (575-393-8005).
